Gravy & Sauce

Gravies and sauces are essential additions to many dishes, adding richness, flavour, and moisture to food.

Gravy is typically made from the pan drippings of roasted meat, such as beef, chicken, or turkey, combined with stock, flour, and seasonings. It has a savoury, rich taste and is commonly served with roast meats, mashed potatoes, and vegetables.

Sauces, on the other hand, come in countless varieties, both hot and cold. Classic béchamel sauce (a creamy white sauce made with milk and butter) is the base for many creamy dishes like macaroni and cheese or croquettes. Tomato-based sauces, like marinara are used in pasta dishes, while pesto, made from fresh basil, garlic, pine nuts, and olive oil, offers a fragrant option.

Gravy-based sauces, like onion or mushroom gravy, complement meats and hearty dishes.

Gravies and sauces are crucial to enhancing the overall flavour profile of a dish and transforming a simple meal into something much more exciting and satisfying.
